Some New Oracle OLAP and Essbase Blogs
Just a quick posting on Saturday morning to mention some new Oracle OLAP and Essbase blogs that I've come across.
First up is an Oracle OLAP blog by some of the most well-known people behind the product. Kevin Lancaster (well known to us at the UK Oracle User Group), Keith Laker (ditto), Jameson White (the man behind many of the diagnostic and performance scripts for Oracle OLAP) and Brian MacDonald have got together and started a blog on the internals and concepts behind Oracle OLAP. Keep an eye on the Oracle OLAP page at the Oracle Wiki, where Jameson has put some material together on diagnostic techniques for Oracle OLAP.
On the Essbase front, two blogs that I came across recently were Tim Tow's Hyperion Blog and Edward Roske's "Look Smarter Than You Are" blog, a reference to the Essbase book he's written of the same name. I was particularly interested in Tim's posting on why you can't query Essbase using SQL - of course this feature is available in Oracle OLAP, I'd be interested to hear his take on how this compares vs the MDX access that Essbase actually ships with.
That's it for now; I'm packing my bags this afternoon for my trip to Prague on on Sunday, where I'll be delivering one of my Oracle University seminars. Looking at the weather forecast it's even colder than over here - I wonder if I'll see some snow over Prague Castle?
