Oracle Data Integrator Enterprise Edition Now Available
Towards the end of last week, Oracle announced new packaging for Oracle Data Integrator and Oracle Warehouse Builder. "Oracle Data Integrator Enterprise Edition" brings together Oracle Data Integrator (ODI), Oracle Warehouse Builder and the Oracle Warehouse Builder Enterprise ETL Option for the Oracle Database, into a single software package. The products themselves stay the same - full integration between the two toolsets isn't scheduled until 2011 at the earliest - but it does give customers a single product on the price list to buy, in theory removing some of the confusion around whether to buy OWB or ODI.
What's not currently part of this bundle is the various data quality and data auditing parts of ODI and OWB. ODI still has "Oracle Data Profiling" and "Oracle Data Quality for Data Integrator", based on technology licensed from Trillium, whereas OWB has the Oracle Warehouse Builder Data Quality Option, based on technology Oracle-derived technology. Both of these families of products need to be licensed outside of ODI Enterprise Edition and presumably will be on their own integration path.
There's a handy "Statement of Direction" available on OTN which sets it all out, together with a new page on OTN for ODI EE. There's also a wider Oracle Data Integration Suite which includes all the ODI components plus Oracle Data Relationship Management, Oracle BPEL Process Manager, Oracle Service Bus, Oracle Coherence and Oracle Adapters which again starts to bring Oracle's many data integration products together.
So, one more step in the OWB and ODI integration process, although at this stage it's more focused on packaging than technical integration. Keep an eye out for the 11g releases of OWB and ODI, due later in 2009 according to the statement of direction, where we'll start to see elements of ODI appearing in OWB as a precursor to the two tools merging into one.
